21 Benefits of Cross-Curricular Orienteering
What teachers, headteachers & pupils say...
Cross-Curricular Orienteering has been one of the best resources that we’ve ever bought, and we’ve used our sports premium money to purchase it. It was two years ago when we had it set up and since then it’s been used constantly, across the curriculum and for PE sessions as well. The last two years we’ve actually won the Lancashire Games for orienteering, so we know it’s benefiting all of our children in many ways.
Our children and staff love it. It’s helped us make full use of our school grounds and it’s a great use of our sports premium!
Here at Carnforth Community Primary School we want children to understand that healthy options are the way to go. We teach them about their diet, the need for exercise and their success in learning. It’s all contributing to their overall well-being. Outdoor active learning is a key part of that.
Time in school is precious. Being able to combine multiple subjects into one lesson using Cross-Curricular Orienteering has been extremely valuable. The children love the outdoor Maths and English. It’s fun, it’s engaging, it’s pacey, it’s active, it’s fantastic for them!
Cross-Curricular Orienteering is tailored perfectly for schools. There are Maths questions, English questions, SPaG questions, PE questions, everything is in there, the lesson plans are all there, everything is ready to go. I think every school would benefit from this. It’s great value for money and one of the best PE resources we’ve ever invested in.
The Red PE and Fitness Course is fantastic for building children’s stamina. They perform HIIT exercises at each station, all over the school grounds. The children absolutely love it – they love the freedom to search around the school and they have lots and lots of fun.
We know that children need at least 60 active minutes per day and as a school we’re responsible for providing at least half an hour of that and Cross-Curricular Orienteering has really helped us achieve that. The kids absolutely love it. It’s been really fun, and the kids have got so much out of it! It’s been brilliant and really good for us!
We orienteer in PE using the Maths and SPaG courses for revision. As Maths leader, I was really impressed with the content of the Maths courses.
Cross-Curricular Orienteering has given our children access to a new and exciting sport and I feel really proud that the children who have used these skills work together as a team and we’ve managed to get through to the Lancashire finals two years in a row.
Cross-Curricular Orienteering has made it so easy for us as a school. It's compulsory for teachers to deliver outdoor adventurous activities. Orienteering is the best way to do it. It's reduced workload and provided our staff with a resource to produce high quality lessons. The supporting document makes it easy for all teachers to deliver. My year 3s love it!
We know that children need 60 active minutes per day and as a school we’re responsible for providing 30 minutes of that. Cross-Curricular Orienteering helps us to do this in PE, Maths, English and other lessons and at break times and after school clubs. We believe it’s more important than ever that children get active and get outside.
The English orienteering signs cover the whole of the Key Stage 2 content fantastically well. It is such an exciting way for the children to practise their skills in an outdoor environment.
Cross-Curricular Orienteering is great for developing the children’s teamwork skills. We also use the maps in Geography lessons as well as other topic areas. It’s a great resource!
